PNG, JPG, WEBP - text-heavy images work best

Tentang alat ini

OCR turns a picture of text into actual text. That sounds simple and is genuinely hard: the software has to find the lines, isolate each character shape, and decide which letter it is, all while coping with skew, shadows, compression artefacts and fonts it has never seen. Modern engines do it well on clean printed material - typically well above 95% accurate on a straight, well-lit scan - and much less well as conditions degrade. Understanding what drives accuracy is what makes the difference in practice: resolution, contrast, straightness and focus matter far more than anything in the tool's settings. A photograph taken at an angle in dim light will produce errors no engine can avoid, while the same document scanned flat produces near-perfect output. What makes this implementation unusual is that the whole engine runs inside your browser via WebAssembly - most free OCR services upload your images. Here nothing is transmitted, which matters when the documents are contracts, ID or medical records.

Cara menggunakan alat ini

  1. Add your imageA photo, scan or screenshot. The first run downloads the OCR engine and English data - about 7 MB, cached afterwards.
  2. Let it recognise the textProcessing happens on your device, so speed depends on your hardware rather than a server queue.
  3. Proofread the resultCheck numbers, names and unusual words against the original. These are where OCR errors concentrate.
  4. Copy the textPaste it wherever you need it - a document, spreadsheet, translator or search.

Mengapa menggunakannya

  • Runs entirely on your device - no upload, which is rare among free OCR tools and essential for sensitive documents.
  • Works offline once the engine has been cached on first use.
  • No account, no page limit and no per-scan charge.
  • Turns any photographed or scanned page into searchable, editable text.
  • Handles screenshots, which is often the quickest way to get text out of an app that blocks copying.

Penggunaan umum

  • Getting text out of a photographed document without retyping it.
  • Making a scanned PDF searchable by extracting its text.
  • Copying text from a screenshot where selection is blocked.
  • Digitising receipts, business cards or printed notes.
  • Extracting text for translation from a photo taken abroad.

Tips untuk hasil lebih baik

  • Photograph straight on, not at an angle. Skew is the single biggest cause of poor recognition.
  • Even, bright lighting with no shadow across the page matters more than camera quality.
  • Crop tightly to the text before running OCR. Removing surrounding clutter measurably improves accuracy.
  • Use the highest resolution available. Small text in a low-resolution image simply has too few pixels per character.
  • Always proofread numbers. Digits are where OCR errors are both most common and most costly - a wrong figure on an invoice matters more than a wrong letter in a word.

Kesalahan yang harus dihindari

  • Photographing at an angle or in poor light, then blaming the tool for the errors that follow.
  • Expecting handwriting to work. OCR is built for printed text; handwriting is a different and much harder problem.
  • Using the extracted text without proofreading, especially where numbers matter.
  • Trying to OCR a very low-resolution screenshot, where the characters have too few pixels to identify.
  • Uploading identity documents to a server-based OCR service. This one runs locally.

Pertanyaan yang sering diajukan

All modern browsers - Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and their mobile versions. The OCR engine is WebAssembly-based rather than relying on a browser-specific text detection feature, so there is no longer any browser requirement beyond being reasonably up to date.

The OCR engine and its English language data (roughly 7 MB combined) are downloaded the first time you click Extract Text. Your browser caches them afterwards, so later scans start much faster. A progress bar shows what is happening during the download and the recognition itself.

No. The entire process runs on your own device - the image is never sent to this site or to any third-party service. That also means the tool keeps working on a slow connection once the engine has been cached.

Clear, well-lit photos or scans with straight, in-focus text work best. Blurry photos, extreme angles, low resolution, or unusual/stylized fonts reduce accuracy. Cropping tightly to just the text you need usually improves the result.

OCR is designed for printed/typed text. Handwriting recognition is a much harder problem and generally isn't reliable with standard OCR - results on handwritten notes will likely have significant errors.

The tool currently recognises English. It handles the standard Latin alphabet well, but other scripts such as Arabic, Urdu, Chinese or Cyrillic need their own language data and are not supported yet.

OCR is very good but not perfect - always proofread the extracted text against the original image, especially for numbers, unusual words, or lower-quality source images.

Yes. OCR Image To Text is free for normal use with no account required, and ToolBox does not add a watermark to your result.
