Many factors affect real-world speed: WiFi signal strength/interference, other devices using the network simultaneously, the specific test server's distance/load, and your ISP's actual delivered speed versus advertised speed during peak hours.
Ping measures latency - how long it takes for a signal to travel to a server and back, in milliseconds. Lower ping matters a lot for real-time activities like online gaming and video calls, even if your download/upload speeds are otherwise good.
For the most accurate picture of your actual internet connection speed (rather than WiFi limitations), a wired Ethernet connection removes WiFi as a variable - though testing on WiFi is still useful for understanding your real everyday experience.
