The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, for the 2025 and 2026 tax years (Canada currently 2026 only). Each country shows the source its figures came from and the date they were last checked. More countries can be added as their rules are verified - the calculator is built so tax data lives in a separate file from the calculation logic.

Treat it as a good estimate, not tax advice. The bands and rates come from official sources and the arithmetic is tested against worked examples, but real tax depends on things a salary box cannot capture: other income, reliefs and allowances, pension arrangements, marital or family status, and the region you live in. Always confirm with your tax authority or an accountant before making decisions.

Yes, and they are itemised separately from income tax. US results include Social Security and Medicare, the UK includes National Insurance, Canada includes CPP, CPP2 and EI, and Australia includes the Medicare Levy. These often matter more to your take-home pay than the headline tax rate does.

Because tax bands are marginal: each rate applies only to the income inside that band, never to your whole salary. Earning one unit above a threshold means only that unit is taxed at the higher rate. The band table highlights the band your top earnings fall into so you can see this directly.

The effective rate is your total tax as a share of your gross salary - the number that reflects what you actually pay overall. The marginal rate is the rate charged on your next unit earned, which is what matters when weighing a pay rise or extra work. The effective rate is always lower than the marginal rate in a progressive system.

Because neither country levies personal income tax on salaries - that is genuinely correct, not a placeholder. Note that nationals in both countries make pension or social insurance contributions that expatriate employees generally do not, and those are not modelled here.

Not yet. US results are federal only, Canadian results are federal only, and UK results use the England, Wales and Northern Ireland bands rather than Scotland's. Where this applies, the tool says so under the results, because in those countries regional tax can change your take-home pay substantially.
