Cropping cuts an image down to a rectangular area and discards everything outside it. Unlike resizing, it costs no quality at all: the pixels you keep are the original pixels, untouched. What cropping changes is composition and aspect ratio, which is usually the real reason people need it. A profile picture has to be square, a video thumbnail 16:9, a printed photo 4:3 or 3:2 - and a phone camera produces none of those by default. If you upload the wrong shape, the platform crops it for you, badly, usually cutting off someone's head. Cropping deliberately means you decide what survives. This tool offers fixed ratios for the common cases and a free mode for anything else, with the selection rendered live so you can see the result before committing. Everything happens in your browser and no image is uploaded.

Consejos para mejores resultados

  • Crop before resizing. Cropping first means the resize works from exactly the area you are keeping.
  • Leave a little space around the subject. Very tight crops give you no room if a platform trims further.
  • For profile pictures, check how the image looks as a circle - most platforms mask square uploads into circles.
  • Cropping heavily reduces the pixel count, so a small crop of a small image may end up too low-resolution to use.
  • Keep the original. Cropping is destructive in the sense that the discarded area is gone from the exported file.

Errores a evitar

  • Cropping to the exact display size, leaving nothing for a platform to work with when it crops again.
  • Ignoring aspect ratio, then having the upload cropped automatically in a way that cuts off the subject.
