À propos de cet outil
Phone cameras produce enormous video files - a minute of 4K footage can exceed 300 MB - and almost every place you might send one imposes a limit far below that. Compression re-encodes the video at a lower bitrate, which is the number that actually governs file size: bitrate multiplied by duration is roughly the size, regardless of what the resolution says. That is why a short 4K clip can be smaller than a long 1080p one. Video compresses far more effectively than images because consecutive frames are mostly identical, so the encoder stores the differences between frames rather than every frame in full. Footage of a static scene therefore shrinks dramatically, while fast motion, confetti, rain or handheld camera shake all defeat that prediction and compress poorly. Compression is lossy and one-way, so keep your original. Videos are processed on the server and deleted afterwards, with a 500 MB upload limit.

Comment utiliser cet outil
- Upload your videoFiles up to 500 MB. Encoding is far too heavy for a browser, so this runs on the server and the file is deleted once the job completes.
- Choose a compression levelHigher compression means a smaller file and a lower bitrate. The trade-off shows up first in fast-moving scenes.
- Wait for encodingEvery frame has to be decoded and re-encoded, so this takes real time - roughly proportional to length and resolution.
- Download the resultCheck a fast-moving section before deleting the original, since that is where artefacts appear first.
Pourquoi l’utiliser
- Turns an unshareable phone recording into something that fits an email or messaging limit.
- Keeps resolution intact while reducing bitrate, so the video is not made physically smaller unless you want that.
- Handles the common phone formats without needing desktop software installed.
- No account and no watermark burned into the output.
- The original file on your device is untouched.
Usages courants
- Emailing a video that exceeds a 25 MB attachment limit.
- Sending footage through a messaging app that caps file size.
- Uploading to a platform or form that rejects large files.
- Reducing a library of phone videos before backing them up.
- Preparing video for a website, where an uncompressed file would be unusable.
Conseils pour de meilleurs résultats
- Lowering the resolution saves far more than compression alone. A 4K clip that will only be watched on a phone loses nothing visible at 1080p.
- Trim before compressing. Removing thirty unwanted seconds saves more than any quality setting, and costs no quality at all.
- Check a high-motion section of the result, not a static one. Artefacts appear in movement first.
- Keep the original. Compression is lossy and re-compressing a compressed file degrades it further.
- If you only need part of the video, the Video Trimmer first and the compressor second is almost always the better order.
Erreurs à éviter
- Compressing repeatedly to squeeze out more size. Each pass adds artefacts on top of the previous ones, permanently.
- Judging quality from a static frame. Video artefacts live in motion.
- Keeping 4K resolution for footage that will only ever be viewed on a phone screen.
- Deleting the original before checking the compressed version properly.
- Compressing when trimming would have solved it - unused footage is the cheapest thing to remove.

Questions fréquentes
Upload your video above, choose a compression level and wait for encoding to finish. The smaller file is then available to download, and your original is untouched.
Yes. No account and no watermark on the output. Uploads are limited to 500 MB per file, because video encoding is genuinely expensive to run.
At moderate levels, rarely on a phone or laptop screen. Aggressive compression is visible, and it shows up in fast motion first - so judge the result on a moving section rather than a still frame.
It depends on length and resolution, since every frame must be decoded and re-encoded. A short clip takes seconds; a long 4K video takes considerably longer. There is no way around this - it is real computation, not a queue.
It is uploaded, because encoding cannot run in a browser, and it is deleted once the job finishes. Most tools on this site process locally, but video is one of the few that cannot.
Usually because it was already compressed - most phone and downloaded video is - or because the footage has constant motion, which defeats the frame-to-frame prediction that makes video compression effective.
Often, yes. Reducing 4K to 1080p removes three quarters of the pixels and typically saves more than any bitrate setting, with no visible difference on a phone or laptop.
500 MB per upload. For anything larger, trim the video first with the Video Trimmer - removing footage you do not need is more effective than compressing footage you do.
