Trimming a video means keeping only the useful segment and dropping everything before and after it. You set a start and end time, preview the cut, then export a shorter clip - without opening a full timeline editor for a one-minute job. That is the usual need for social highlights, removing silence at the start of a recording, or cutting a demo down to the part people should actually watch. Trimming reduces duration, which usually shrinks file size as a side effect; it is not the same as compression, which re-encodes bitrate while keeping the whole timeline.
