Changing the case of text by hand is one of those small jobs that is far more tedious than it looks - retyping a heading, fixing a sentence typed with caps lock on, or converting a list of database columns into variable names. This converter handles eight formats covering both writing and code: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case. The programming ones are worth knowing apart, because each belongs to a different convention. camelCase starts lowercase and capitalises subsequent words, and is standard for JavaScript and Java variables. PascalCase capitalises the first word too, and names classes and components. snake_case joins words with underscores and dominates Python and SQL column names. kebab-case uses hyphens and is what URLs, CSS classes and HTML attributes expect. - Sentence case is usually the better choice for headings on the web - it reads more naturally than Title Case and is what most style guides now prefer.
- For URL slugs, kebab-case is the convention - search engines treat hyphens as word separators and underscores as joiners.
- Convert a whole list at once by pasting it with one item per line rather than doing them individually.
- Check acronyms after converting. Automatic casing turns "API" into "Api" in PascalCase, which may or may not be what your codebase does.
- For URL slugs specifically, the URL Slug Generator also strips accents and punctuation, which plain case conversion does not.
Erros a evitar
- Using Title Case on a URL. Uppercase letters in paths cause duplicate-content problems on case-sensitive servers.
- Assuming Title Case follows a single rule. Style guides disagree on which short words to capitalise, so check yours if it matters.
- Converting code identifiers without checking acronym handling - "parseHTMLString" and "parseHtmlString" are both common and mixing them is inconsistent.
- Converting text containing proper nouns to lowercase, which strips capitalisation you wanted to keep.
