Remove Background from Product Photos Free (Marketplace Cutouts)
Table of contents
Marketplaces are picky about product images. Amazon's main image generally wants the product on white, filling most of the frame, no text, no props stealing the subject. Shopify themes and Etsy thumbnails are more flexible, but a busy kitchen counter behind a candle still looks amateur. You do not need a lightbox for a first listing. You need a sharp photo, a cut-out, and the right background.
The general one-click walkthrough is remove an image background in one click. This page is the listing workflow: white vs transparent, edge shine on bottles, and what to do with jewellery and white-on-white packaging.
Shoot so the cut-out has a chance
- Daylight from the side, not a yellow overhead bulb.
- A contrasting surface. A white bottle on a white table is the hard case. Use a coloured cloth, then cut to white later.
- Fill the frame. Marketplaces crop. Tiny products in a huge room waste pixels.
- One product per main image. Lifestyle shots can be extra images, not the primary SKU image.
Cut out and match the channel
- Open Remove Background and upload the photo.
- Pick the cleaner of the two results (server vs on-device). Bottles and clear packaging often need the editor either way.
- Zoom in on the contact shadow. Leaving a grey halo looks like a bad Photoshop job. Brush it.
- Set background to white for Amazon-style main images, or transparent if your theme or designer will place it on a card. Export PNG so white does not get baked in when you still need alpha.
- If they want square 2000 px, use the Image Resizer after the cut-out, then compress for upload.
Listing-specific gotchas
- White products: over-trimming eats the outline. Leave a 1 px edge and check on a grey preview, not only on white.
- Reflective objects: the model may keep a window reflection as "part of the product". Clone or brush it if the marketplace wants a clean pack shot.
- Infographics on the main image: many marketplaces reject them. Keep badges for secondary photos.
- Do not watermark the primary image. It is a rejection reason and it looks like stock.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a white background, not transparent?
Yes. After the cut-out, set a white background in the editor and export. Use PNG or high-quality JPG as the listing asks.
Will there be a watermark?
No.
Is the photo uploaded?
The fast result uses a secure server. On-device AI also runs. Do not upload unreleased products if that split is a problem; wait for the on-device option.
