Merge PDF Files for a Job Application (CV, Certificates, ID)

Most job portals want one PDF, not five. The CV, the cover letter, degree scans, an ID page and a portfolio sample each arrive as their own file. If you upload only the CV, the certificates never reach the recruiter. If you zip them, the portal rejects the zip. Merging into a single document, in a deliberate order, is the actual requirement.

Merge PDF joins files in your browser. Contracts and IDs stay on your device. Drag the files into the order a human will read them, then download one document.

A sensible page order

  1. Cover letter (if they asked for one).
  2. CV / resume, latest version only.
  3. Certificates and transcripts, most relevant first.
  4. ID or other requested scans last, unless the form said otherwise.

Name the download something a recruiter can file: Jane-Doe-Application-Role.pdf, not final-final-3.pdf.

How to merge without a desktop app

  1. Collect the latest PDFs. Do not merge an old CV "for now".
  2. Open Merge PDF and add the files. Reorder by dragging so the sequence matches the list above.
  3. Download the combined file and open it once. Confirm no blank pages, no upside-down scans, no duplicate CV.
  4. If the portal cap is 2 MB or 5 MB, run the result through the PDF Compressor. If it is still huge, you probably included full-page photo scans. Compress those, or split out pages the form did not ask for.

Portal and email traps

  • Some ATS software reads only the first PDF you attach. Merge first so nothing sits in a second attachment they never open.
  • Photo scans of certificates bloat the file. Photograph them straight-on, then compress. Do not screenshot a screenshot.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot merge until they are unlocked.
  • Keep the separate originals. You will need a one-page CV again tomorrow.

Frequently asked questions

How do I combine a CV and certificates into one PDF?

Add them to Merge PDF in order and download. The files never leave your browser.

The portal says the file is too large.

Compress the merged PDF. If it is still over the cap, remove extra certificate pages or rescan at a lower resolution.

Will merging change the layout?

No. Pages are copied as they are. It does not reflow text like a Word merge.
