About this tool
Splitting a PDF pulls selected pages out of a larger document into a new file, leaving the original untouched. The operation is genuinely lossless: pages are copied across as complete objects, not re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays selectable, images keep their exact quality and the result is indistinguishable from the corresponding pages of the source. That matters when the alternative people often reach for is printing to PDF or screenshotting pages, both of which flatten text into pixels and destroy searchability. The other thing worth knowing is that this runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib - your document is never uploaded, which is the difference between splitting a signed contract here and sending it to someone else's server. You can enter individual pages, ranges, or a mix of both.

How to use this tool
- Add your PDFDrop the file in or browse to select. Page thumbnails are rendered so you can see what you are working with.
- Enter the pages you wantUse a comma-separated list with ranges - for example 1, 3, 5-8 keeps page 1, page 3 and pages 5 through 8.
- ExtractThe selected pages are copied into a new document in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and the original file is not modified.
- Download the new PDFThe result contains only the pages you chose, in the order the source had them.
Key features
- Completely lossless - pages are copied, never re-rendered, so quality and searchable text are preserved exactly.
- Runs in your browser, so confidential documents never leave your device.
- Mixed page selection in one pass: individual pages and ranges together, like 1, 3, 5-8.
- The source file is untouched, so a mistake costs nothing.
- No account, no watermark and no page limit imposed by a server.
Common uses
- Sending one chapter of a long report instead of the whole document.
- Extracting a single page needed for a form or application.
- Pulling your own section out of a combined document before sharing it.
- Breaking a large scanned book into manageable sections.
- Removing confidential appendices before circulating a document more widely.
Tips for better results
- Page numbers refer to positions in the PDF, which may not match printed page numbers if the document has unnumbered front matter.
- Check the thumbnails before extracting - it is faster than extracting the wrong range and repeating.
- To remove pages rather than keep them, select every page except the ones you want gone.
- Splitting does not reduce file size proportionally if the document shares fonts and resources across pages. Run the result through the PDF Compressor if size matters.
- For a password-protected file, remove the protection with the PDF Unlocker first - encrypted documents cannot be read for splitting.
Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming printed page numbers match PDF positions. A report with roman-numbered front matter offsets everything.
- Trying to split an encrypted PDF, which fails until the password protection is removed.
- Expecting the split file to be proportionally smaller. Shared resources mean a 10-page extract from 100 pages is rarely a tenth of the size.
- Printing to PDF or screenshotting pages instead of splitting, which turns selectable text into flat images.
- Overwriting the original with the extract and losing the other pages.

Frequently asked questions
Add your PDF above, type the pages you want as a comma-separated list with ranges - for example 1, 3, 5-8 - and extract. A new PDF containing just those pages downloads immediately.
Yes. No account, no page limit and no watermark on the extracted document.
No. Splitting runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib, so the document never leaves your device. That is what makes it safe for contracts, medical records and anything else confidential.
Comma-separated, with hyphens for ranges: 1, 3, 5-8 extracts page 1, page 3 and pages 5 through 8 into one new file. Individual pages and ranges can be mixed freely.
No. Pages are copied as complete objects rather than re-rendered, so text stays selectable and searchable and images keep their original quality.
Not while it is encrypted. Remove the protection first with the PDF Unlocker, then split the unprotected copy.
Select every page you want to keep and extract those. The result is the original minus the pages you left out, which is the same outcome.
No server-imposed limit, since processing is local. Very large scanned documents use browser memory, so close other heavy tabs if a file runs to thousands of pages.
