Salary Tax Calculator in your browser, no signup

This calculator estimates your income tax and take-home pay from your gross salary, using the tax bands and payroll deductions for the country and tax year you pick - showing monthly and yearly figures, your effective tax rate, and exactly which band each part of your income falls into.

These numbers are the kind you check twice before sending a quote, a tax form or a loan application. The tool does the arithmetic; you still own the inputs.

Salary Tax Calculator is a good fit when comparing two job offers with different gross packages.

In plain English

Salary Tax Calculator is built around a few practical wins, not a long feature list:

  • Provides fast net-pay estimate for planning and negotiation.
  • Explains how progressive bands affect total tax burden.
  • Shows payroll deductions beyond headline tax rate.
  • Useful for salary offers and budgeting decisions.

How to run it

  1. Select country and tax year. Choose the jurisdiction and period matching your salary scenario.
  2. Enter gross salary. Input annual or monthly gross figure before deductions.
  3. Run tax estimate. Apply configured tax bands and statutory payroll deductions.
  4. Review take-home breakdown. Check effective rate, net pay, and deduction components clearly.

Real situations

  • Comparing two job offers with different gross packages.
  • Estimating monthly take-home for budget planning.
  • Checking payroll expectations before relocation.
  • Modeling impact of raise or bonus on net income.

Small habits that help

  • Use the same pay period basis when comparing scenarios.
  • Account for region-specific taxes not covered in base model.
  • Re-run with updated tax-year rules each year.
  • Keep emergency buffer for payroll variability and withholdings.

Skip these

  • Assuming marginal tax rate applies to full salary.
  • Ignoring non-tax deductions when planning cash flow.
  • Comparing salaries across countries without cost-of-living context.
  • Treating estimate as final official tax filing output.

Does anything leave your device?

Salary Tax Calculator runs in your browser. The file or text you paste stays on your device. There is no account, and nothing is stored on a ToolBox server for this job.

If this is one step in a longer job, these usually come after it:

  • Paycheck Calculator - Estimate your US take-home pay after federal tax, Social Security and Medicare
  • Hourly to Salary - Convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary and every cadence in between
  • Sales Tax Calculator - Add sales tax to a price or remove it from a total, for all 50 US states

FAQ

Which countries and tax years are supported?

The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, for the 2025 and 2026 tax years (Canada currently 2026 only). Each country shows the source its figures came from and the date they were last checked. More countries can be added as their rules are verified - the calculator is built so tax data lives in a separate file from the calculation logic.

Is this accurate enough to rely on?

Treat it as a good estimate, not tax advice. The bands and rates come from official sources and the arithmetic is tested against worked examples, but real tax depends on things a salary box cannot capture: other income, reliefs and allowances, pension arrangements, marital or family status, and the region you live in. Always confirm with your tax authority or an accountant before making decisions.

Does it include social security and other payroll deductions?

Yes, and they are itemised separately from income tax. US results include Social Security and Medicare, the UK includes National Insurance, Canada includes CPP, CPP2 and EI, and Australia includes the Medicare Levy. These often matter more to your take-home pay than the headline tax rate does.

Why does moving into a higher tax band not cut my whole salary?

Because tax bands are marginal: each rate applies only to the income inside that band, never to your whole salary. Earning one unit above a threshold means only that unit is taxed at the higher rate. The band table highlights the band your top earnings fall into so you can see this directly.

What is the difference between the effective rate and the marginal rate?

The effective rate is your total tax as a share of your gross salary - the number that reflects what you actually pay overall. The marginal rate is the rate charged on your next unit earned, which is what matters when weighing a pay rise or extra work. The effective rate is always lower than the marginal rate in a progressive system.

Why do the UAE and Saudi Arabia show zero tax?

Because neither country levies personal income tax on salaries - that is genuinely correct, not a placeholder. Note that nationals in both countries make pension or social insurance contributions that expatriate employees generally do not, and those are not modelled here.

Does it cover state, provincial or regional taxes?

Not yet. US results are federal only, Canadian results are federal only, and UK results use the England, Wales and Northern Ireland bands rather than Scotland's. Where this applies, the tool says so under the results, because in those countries regional tax can change your take-home pay substantially.

Is my salary information sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Your last entry is saved locally on your own device so a refresh does not lose it, and Reset clears it.
