About this tool
Sideways pages are almost always a scanning artefact. Feed a stack through a document scanner and some sheets go in rotated, or a landscape table gets scanned in portrait, and the resulting PDF has pages you have to tilt your head to read. Rotating fixes it without rescanning anything, and it is genuinely lossless: a PDF page carries a rotation property that viewers apply when displaying it, so changing that value does not touch the page content at all. No re-rendering, no quality loss, no change to text or images. Rotation applies per page, which is what you need in practice, since scanning problems usually affect some pages and not others. Three angles cover every case - 90° and 270° for sideways in either direction, 180° for upside down. This runs in your browser, so scanned contracts and records are never uploaded.
How to use this tool
- Add your PDFPage thumbnails are rendered so you can see which pages are wrong.
- Select the pages to rotatePick individual pages, or apply to all if the whole document is oriented wrongly.
- Choose the angle90° or 270° for sideways depending on direction, 180° for upside down.
- Download the corrected PDFContent is untouched - only the display orientation changes.
Key features
- Completely lossless - only a rotation property changes, so text stays selectable and quality is identical.
- Per-page control, which matters because scan problems rarely affect every page.
- Runs in your browser, so scanned documents never leave your device.
- Saves rescanning a document that is otherwise fine.
- No account, no page limit and no watermark.
Common uses
- Fixing scanned pages that went through the scanner the wrong way round.
- Correcting a landscape table or chart scanned in portrait orientation.
- Preparing a document for printing where orientation must be consistent.
- Fixing a PDF exported from software that got the page orientation wrong.
- Tidying a merged document assembled from differently-oriented sources.
Tips for better results
- Check the thumbnails first and note which pages need which angle - it is quicker than rotating and re-checking.
- If a page is upside down, that is 180°. If you have to tilt your head, it is 90° or 270° depending on which way.
- Rotate before merging documents together, so the combined file is consistent from the start.
- Rotation is not the same as flipping. There is no mirror operation here, and a mirrored scan needs rescanning.
- If the page is only slightly askew rather than square-rotated, that is skew from the scanner and rotation will not fix it.
Mistakes to avoid
- Rotating the whole document when only a few pages were wrong.
- Confusing 90° and 270° and ending up upside down instead of correct - check the preview.
- Assuming rotation re-renders and degrades the page. It does not; only a property changes.
- Expecting rotation to fix a slightly skewed scan. Skew needs rescanning or a deskew tool.
- Rescanning an entire document when a rotation would have solved it in seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Yes - select individual pages to rotate rather than applying the same rotation to every page, which is useful when only some scanned pages came out sideways.
No - rotation only changes the page's orientation metadata/display angle. The underlying content and resolution are unchanged.
90°, 180°, and 270° - covering sideways in either direction and fully upside-down pages.
No. Rotation happens in your browser, so scanned contracts, records and statements never leave your device.
Neither. A PDF page stores a rotation property that viewers apply when displaying it, so changing it does not re-render anything. Text stays selectable and images keep their exact quality.
No. That is skew from the scanner, not rotation, and correcting it requires re-rendering the page at an arbitrary angle. Rescanning is usually the better fix.
Yes. PDF Page Rotator is free for normal use with no account required, and ToolBox does not add a watermark to your result.
Most tools in this category run in your browser so the file stays on your device. If a tool needs a temporary server job, files are handled for that job only and are not kept as a lasting archive.
